Free Comic Book Day {05/06/17}

On Saturday, 05/06/17, pick up a FREE comic or graphic novel at these metro Detroit comics specialty shops in Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

Every year on the first Saturday in May (in 2017, that’s May 6), comic book specialty shops give out FREE comic books to anyone who drops in! FREE Washtenaw County Sports Camps!

Registration for Washtenaw County Summer Sports Camps is now open! Summer Sports Camps are for kids ages 8-15 and offers Football, Girls and Boys Basketball, Track, Wrestling, Golf, Tennis, and Cheerleading. These camps are offered June 23rd through August 4th and lunch is provided. These camps are FREE and fill up fast so register soon!

Washtenaw County Summer Sports Camps provide children structured recreational activities and are offered each summer through the Juvenile Division of the Washtenaw County Trial Court. The Trial Court is partnering with the University of Michigan, Washtenaw Community College and Ypsilanti Community Schools to bring your child this wonderful opportunity. To register, a parent or guardian can print out and complete the Summer Sports Camp Registration Form and send it back to:

Eastbound I-94 Closure this Weekend!

For those of you living in the Ann Arbor area, Eastbound I-94 will be closed this weekend! Starting Friday at 10 pm through 5 am on Monday, MDOT concrete-repair work will:

  • close Eastbound I-94 between M-14 and Carpenter Road, just east of US-23
  • close Eastbound I-94 entrance ramps at Jackson Avenue, Ann Arbor-Saline Road and State Street
  • close Westbound I-94 ramp to southbound US-23 with traffic detoured to the US-12 (Michigan Avenue) interchange (Exit 181).

During the closure, traffic will be detoured using M-14 and US-23. Motorists are advised to plan extra time when traveling along eastbound I-94 at this time. Alternate routes are strongly advised.

FREE Touch a Truck Event {05/04/13}

Kids can get up close to trucks and vehicles at the FREE Touch a Truck Event scheduled for Saturday, 05/04/13, from 9 am – 12 noon at Shadford Field. Shadford Field is located at 1885 Packard in Ypsilanti and the event will be in the parking lot between Ypsilanti High School and Estabrook Elementary. You can “join” the event on Facebook to get updates on the event.

Confirmed vehicles for this year’s event include:

  • cement mixer
  • moving truck
  • ’58 Dodge pick-up
  • backhoe excavator
  • tractor
  • AAPD’s SWAT tank
  • Sheriff Department’s mounted division

Touch a Truck is a FREE annual event sponsored by Washtenaw County Success by 6 and Great Start Collaborative. I took my kids last year (both girls by the way) and they had a blast! They loved being able to actually touch the vehicles and climb in them.

The event is FREE and will be held at Shadford Field, 1885 Packard, Ypsilanti, MI with parking next door at Ypsilanti High School. Halloween Celebration at Huron Village Plaza

Huron Village Plaza at the Northwest corner of Washtenaw Avenue and Huron Parkway in Ann Arbor is having a special Halloween celebration on Saturday, 10/29/11 from 11 AM – 3 PM.

Family fun begins at Barnes & Noble for a story read of Goodnight Goon and a free cookie. Other giveaways include free hot cocoa from Panera Bread, candy and stickers from Georgetown Gifts and AT&T, and a free 4×6 photo of you in costume from Walgreens. Whole Foods Market is hosting the Halloween Treat Trail and Spooky Pumpkin Carving Contest and FlatTop Grill will hand out candy and offer a $50 first place, $25 second place and T-shirt prize for best costume.
