Ann Arbor YMCA: Healthy Kids Day {05/17/14}

On Saturday, May 17, 2014 the Ann Arbor YMCA will present Healthy Kids Day®: a FREE community event to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active all summer long. The event will be held at Adams Elementary School and Prospect Park in Ypsilanti, 503 Oak Street, Ypsilanti, MI 48197 from 9:30a- 12:30p. Several community organizations will be partnering with the Y to make a morning of active fun, including Growing Hope, Common Cycle, Ypsilanti Library, UM Soccer Team, Safe Kids Washtenaw County and Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society.

The Ann Arbor Y’s Healthy Kids Day will feature fun, active play and educational activities:

  • A bike rodeo and maintenance booth sponsored by Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society and Safe Kids Washtenaw County (over 70 donated helmets will be available!)
  • Penalty kick competition sponsored by UM Soccer team
  • A “bicycle-powered” blender smoothie bar sponsored by Growing Hope
  • Start your own kale seeds
  • Create your own Monster Story with author Connie Harris
  • A hula hoop clinic
  • Family yoga
  • Youth gymnastics
  • Face Painting
  • Healthy Snacks
  • Obstacle Course
  • Family Scavenger hunt
  • Family Zumba
  • Pitch/Hit/Run Competition

YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day is intentionally scheduled to coincide with Ypsilanti P.R.I.D.E Day (People Restoring Image and Developing the Environment), a community-wide event intended to foster community pride and encourage local business growth by creating a clean and welcoming environment. The Y is proud to be an Ypsilanti community partner and to continue to expand its presence in Ypsilanti, offering subsidized afterschool activities and ten weeks of summer day camp as well as offerings for adults: there is a “Y” in Ypsi!
