Fans of reading and a certain galaxy far, far away have reason to rejoice: Star Wars Reads Day, a day-long celebration of literacy and Jedi, Sith, Wookiees, and all things Star Wars, is returning. The second annual Star Wars Reads Day is to be held this October 5, 2013, and will feature Star Wars fans, authors, and artists coming together in a nationwide multi-publisher initiative.
There are some local events celebrating Star Wars Reads Day:
- Barnes & Noble in the Huron Village Shopping Center is one of 15 official author events being held across the country as part of Star Wars Reads Day. Illustrators Chris Trevas, Joe Corroney, and Brian Rood from the book Star Wars: The Essential Reader’s Companion will be at the event at 2 pm for a Q&A session. The event will include trivia, contests, crafts, and more and is suitable for all ages. Galactic attire optional!
- Fans of all ages are invited to celebrate Star Wars Reads Day from 1-4 pm at the Ann Arbor District Library. There will be a costume contest, Star Wars craft activities, trivia and prizes! Go in costume and you can get your picture taken with the costumed Star Wars crew and props and get a FREE photo strip!
I think it’s so cool that the team behind Star Wars Reads Day is offering a limited-run of 1,000 FREE patches to the volunteers, R2 Builders, and other individuals who staff Reads Day events around the world (yes, international volunteers can get them too)! If you’re volunteering at a Reads Day event, you can sign up for a patch here after the event. Reads Day organizers are asking that each volunteer only order one patch. Shipments of patches will go out in mid-to-late October and patch orders will be checked against volunteer records. According to organizers, “the Star Wars Reads Team is also making a large book donation on behalf of all the volunteers who help make Star Wars Reads Day awesome.”
